Belka

The charismatic chef Alexander Belkovich opened his first designer restaurant with the help from Ginza Project, which always supports keen chefs and helps them develop. Sasha had dreamt of his own project for a very long time – that’s why every detail at “Belka” is very well designed.

Belka

About the restaurant

You’ll get a mouthwatering feeling as soon as you enter the restaurant – the counter is dominated by gorgeous eclairs of all colors – lime, currant, pumpkin and chocolate.

It is most certainly not restricted to sweets – the first hall on the way, rich with coffee and pastries, has an open kitchen with hot oven, constantly busy cooks and shiny saucers. The marble table stretches into the distant hall with live fire, retro chairs around the tables with Latin American ornaments and rolling pins stand in neat rows. The restaurant’s design was created by the Megre Interiors agency – highly acclaimed domestically and abroad. The beauty of the environment transpires onto the plates.

One novelty follows another on the menu – Belkovich has managed to gather exciting and contemporary food under the same roof. Where else would you be able to find fresh farmer’s yoghurt and goat cheese at 8 am? Or restaurant fitness in action – extracts of wheat, which grows right on the premises? Freshly squeezed juice with chlorophyll, vitamins and minerals – a genuine vitamin-energy bombshell!

But the true delight for your palates starts later. The “Belka” staff handles culinary combinations with outmost prolificacy. Pistachio paste is put into a risotto, softened by a cherry sauce, while tangy ginger is grated into pumpkin soup. Mini-pizzas are stuffed salmon, sour cream and caviar before being served on a hot skillet, guacamole is made right in front of you.

You can come alone to “Belka” – and never get bored - or with a large group, to eat a huge octopus fried on a barbeque place or appease your delicate taste with fragrant cocktails – with lychee, ginger, mescal and cactus. Or have a private eye-to-eye meeting. And if you’re skint on time, you don’t even have to walk in – you can grab a vip-shawarma at a takeaway window.

Chef

One of the most promising young chefs in Saint Petersburg knows how to turn any dish into a hit. In his hands, a simple meal turns into an exquisite gastronomic masterpiece.

Alexander Belkovich

Chef

Alexander Belkovich recalls his first culinary experiences with a smile: aged six, he prepared a homemade yogurt and a sandwich made of the "Darnitsky" bread and sausages. Only after the ninth grade at school, he started seriously considering a chef’s career, and – having moved to Moscow – he began conquering the capital’s restaurants. Under guidance of experienced mentors, the future chef learned the basics of culinary art at the Correa's chain of restaurants – which became his main school. Soon after, the promising chef was invited to run the kitchen of the new Terassa restaurant. Thats how Alexander’s path within the Ginza Project began.

Alexander won international chef competitions and has authored two books on gastronomy. He says that success in the culinary art largely depends on one’s appetite.

“I really like to eat. Simply love it. Of course, now I taste food differently, but I have always loved to eat. It was due to my love of food that my career kicked off”
