About the restaurant

Mari Vanna restaurant is all about Russian coziness. It operates in Moscow, London, Baku and New York, but the first restaurant  was opened in St. Petersburg ten years ago. Mari Vanna moved from Lenina Street to Mytninskaya embankment and now it boasts the view of Hare Island and Spit of Vasilyevsky Island. The interior was designed by Megre Interiors: room screens wrapped in Pavloposadskie shawls compete in nostalgia with retro sideboards and typewriters, the symbols of good old days. Mari Vanna offers a seating area on the balcony, a lower hall and two separate rooms for chamber get-togethers - the Fireplace and the Dining Room. Under the soft light pouring down from hand-knitted lampshades, you feel like curling up in a chair near the complete works of Chekhov to remember your childhood…

…And to have a snack. Mari Vanna treats with homemade food that Russian mums and grandmas used to prepare:  Russian salad with veal, hearty meat jelly, golden pies with veal heart and sorrel soup with chicken. They bake thin wheat and thick Guriev style pancakes with buckwheat porridge and liver or crab, plus sturgeon and pike caviar, eggplant spread. They hold banquets with suckling pig for the whole table and sterlet stuffed with smoked salmon, they bake a whole pike perch and serve it with horseradish next to the salted orange milk mushrooms, Olyutorskaya herring and a sweated crystal shotglass.

    There is a specialty behind the secret door - the Moonshine Museum with a copper moonshine still and the entourage of a Russian hut. A secret bar counter is ready at hand to comprehend the history of the Russian distinctive character of drinking. Everyone is looking for the national idea, but Mary Vanna restaurant has already found it.  The only remaining step is to get a personal key, that we present here to our friends - public and political figures, famous athletes, pop stars and, of course, regular guests. This key helps you to open the doors of any Mari Vanna restaurant whether in New York or London, in Moscow or St. Petersburg. The Mayor of New York has already obtained the personal key to the doors and heart of Mari Vanna.

Experienced chef, who had studied culinary art for 15 years, has accurately caught the character of Russian cuisine and instilled a special charm within each and every dish.

His professional debut came at the Conti casino, kitchen of which he considers his first culinary school. 

Roman Vasilyev has been involved in the culinary profession for 20 years. During this time, he has mastered the art of high-profile gastronomy and has learnt the secrets of Russian cuisine, having worked at various prestigious restaurants of St. Petersburg.
