About the restaurant

MariVanna is located in the beautiful Flatiron part of Manhattan. The minute you walk in, you would find yourself in a different place, in a different epoch - a typical Russian apartment, with photographs of relatives hanging on the walls, matryoshka dolls and porcelain statuettes, shining crystal ceiling lamps, extensive library which has both the classics and Soviet dissident rarities.

Dimmed lights and soft background music will make you feel like you're at your grandma's - and she would never let you go empty-bellied. Thats why she has cooked your favorite cutlets with mashed potatoes, spaghetti with beef, nourishing schi and borsh soups. If you have space left in your belly after those, definetely try Smetannik dessert - which MariVanna made well beforehand.

The New York Times described MariVanna as a "wonderous treasurebox" - with its dining hall, full of black-and-white photographs, matryoshka dolls and gold-framed mirrors. The menu offers Russian classics, which have stood the test of time - beetroot borsch with beef, cabbages, carrots and potatoes, served with sour cream in a ceramic bowl. Or the favorite beef stroganoff with buckwheat and mushrooms - served under truffle oil.
