Egg and Bun
About the restaurant
Egg and Bun (Yaitso i bulochka) was created by Alena Melnikova, Creative Director of the St. Petersburg Gourmet Days festival and one of the country’s top culinary authorities, in partnership with the Ginza Project. Every effort has been made to ensure the highest gastronomic standards are met: an open kitchen, carefully selected suppliers, the freshest produce, forward-thinking recipes, and an environmentally friendly approach – and all for an average bill of 350 roubles per person. The restaurant was designed by Anastasia Khalchitskaya, who is also behind the interiors at Charlie and Bestie.
At the core of the menu is a build-your-own-bun section, where you can choose from a wide range of buttery brioches, eggs, and toppings. Basic combos include a bun with a fried egg for 99 roubles or a spicy mayo omelette for 129 roubles. Or there’s the full monty, priced at 319 roubles: an omelette, two marbled beef patties, bacon, double cheddar, rocket, pickles, and our house smoked ketchonaise, a giant among sauces. There’s an entire world of possible combinations between these two ends of the spectrum: trout with cream cheese, grilled chicken, and fried frankfurters can all be added to the standard egg and bun.
Toppings can also be served with eggs without the need for a bun, so you can add, say,
guacamole or bacon to your fried eggs and omelettes. The salad, soup, and dessert
sections of the menu are short but sweet. Salads include a vegetarian option, featuring
avocado with cherry tomato, iceberg lettuce, spinach, and a nut and sesame dressing,
as well as a Caesar salad with grilled chicken. The range of desserts includes
strawberry gateau, nuts with condensed milk, and chocolate cake. Why not bulk up a
hearty lunch with sweet potato fries or potato wedges, or cure your hangover with the
unmissable egg noodle broth? The drinks menu has all the bases covered, too: an
excellent coffee selection ranging from espresso to turmeric latte, fresh orange juice
(some of the most affordable in the city!), teas, natural lemonades, craft beer, and
organic cider.
Inexpensive but delicious, filling but healthy – that’s the motto at Egg and Bun (Yaitso i bulochka). Eggs are
sourced from top Karelian poultry farms, buns are baked using state-of-the-art Danish
techniques, the top-quality marbled beef comes from Prime Beef, and the coffee from
the best Italian masters. Guests can sit around the open kitchen and discover just how
liberally the Spanish smoked paprika is added to the ketchonaise, see how long onions
are left to caramelize in orange juice, or watch as patties are thrown into buns straight
from the grill.
Whether you’re dining with friends or grabbing something to go, dropping by for an early
morning breakfast from 7:30 or enjoying lunch, dinner, or a pre-party snack, you’ll
always be in good company at Egg and Bun (Yaitso i bulochka).
